Try it
Answer one. Then press new version.
A real question from each key stage. Answer it, then ask for a new version — the numbers, the wording and the diagram change, but the maths does not.
What is
A handful of demo questions — the real bank holds 20,000, and marking there happens on our servers, never in the browser.
All questions written by highly experienced maths teachers
Fifteen years in maths classrooms · Bett Award finalist · used across the UK and internationally
The product
Twenty thousand questions, and none of them the same twice
Every question rebuilds itself each time it is used. Numbers, wording and diagrams change, so 20,000 questions become over two million versions — no two pupils get the same paper, and nothing can be copied.
The whole maths curriculum
KS1 to Further Maths, including IGCSE and AQA Level 2. One system for the department, and one account that follows a pupil from Year 1 to Year 13.
Homework sets and marks itself
Load your termly plan once. Mathster works out what each class should be doing that week, sets it, and marks it the moment it is handed in.
Help, not just answers
Bespoke hints and a full worked example for every single question. The worked example uses different numbers, so a stuck pupil is shown the method — never handed their own answer.
Gaps named, not just scored
Results break down by objective, with the common error identified — so you know what to reteach on Monday.
The plan does the setting
Load your maths department's termly plan once and the weeks look after themselves. Weekly, fortnightly, or however your department works.
- Built from your scheme of work and the school calendar
- Every attempt recorded, not just the final answer
- Teachers can turn a week off, swap it, or use their own questions — if the head of department allows it
Termly plan · Year 9 Set 2
Set automatically each Monday · 28 pupils
Print it, hand it out
The same questions come off the printer as a proper worksheet — marks per question, a name and score line, and a solutions page behind it.
- One or two columns, your choice of font and size
- Leave space for working and answers, or print the questions alone
- Answer key and full worked solutions optional
- Keep the same numbers, or print a fresh version for a retest
3. Exponentials and Logarithms
20 marksPlay it as a whole class
Any worksheet or homework becomes a live game in one click. Press start and it appears on every pupil's screen — no code to read out, and no options to guess between. They type the answer, the same way they would in a homework.
- No multiple choice — pupils type their own answer, and it is marked as maths
- Run it from your phone, so you can walk the room while it plays
- Tap a name to see that pupil's working on your own screen
- Replay a homework and everyone gets fresh numbers — a quick check that the understanding came with them
- Every answer goes into the pupil record alongside their homework
Pupils type real maths
Not a plain text box with a right answer and a hundred wrong spellings of it. Fractions, powers, roots and integrals go in as maths, and are marked as maths.
- Answers are read as expressions, not strings —
and both count as correct - Accuracy bounds are respected — anything that rounds correctly is accepted, and anything that does not is marked wrong
- A full maths keyboard on every device — fractions, powers, roots, calculus and proper notation, not a row of symbols to hunt through
And this is how they type it
The same answer, three ways — all correct
Answer: 7.3 (1 d.p.)
The mark scheme accepts anything that rounds to 7.3, so a pupil who carried more figures through is not punished for it. 7.362 rounds to 7.4, so it is not accepted. That is exactly how an exam paper marks it when no accuracy is specified.
See who is stuck, and why
Every marked task rolls into a gradebook broken down by objective, so a weak spot across a class is obvious at a glance rather than buried in a spreadsheet.
- Class gaps by objective, with the common error named
- Follow-up work generated for the pupils who need it
- A gradebook across the department, not just one class
Class 9M · Ratio and proportion
Workload
Nobody takes a set of books home
Homework is set from the plan you already wrote, marked the moment it is handed in, and reported back by objective. The evening that used to go on ticking goes back to you — and the class gets its feedback that night, not next Tuesday.
- Setting itThe plan sets it by default. Change it, swap it or pause it whenever you want.
- Marking itEvery answer marked the moment it is submitted, for every pupil.
- Chasing itYou can see who has not started without asking.
- Working out what went wrongThe gaps are named before you open the class.

Used and trusted
Maths teachers who know the classroom
I am very impressed. The things that strike home are how easy it is to use and how powerful it is. At its heart is the assessment and grading engine, and once you start delving inside you realise how well the Mathster team knows the needs of a maths teacher. The interface is slick, the assessment content is vast and up to date and the price is incredibly reasonable.
Mathster has really allowed teachers to personalise learning and given them the freedom to tackle misconceptions within the lesson. It has really cut down on teachers having to search for worksheets or create their own, but they still have ownership of the activities set for children. A simple interface, plenty of good questions to choose from (a phenomenal resource bank) and a quick and responsive online support team.
The ease at which you can create maths documents, randomise the questions, and the sheer wealth of curriculum coverage on there make the site absolutely essential for our maths department. The online assessments also allow us to do something that other similar products lack, and that is to see exactly where our students have gone wrong with each question, whilst still keeping the invaluable automatic marking functionality.
Mathster has completely transformed the way I manage homework and assessment. I can set homework automatically, create high-quality printed worksheets in seconds and instantly see how each pupil is progressing. It saves me an enormous amount of time and gives me a much clearer understanding of where pupils are succeeding and where they need additional support. I honestly wouldn’t want to go back to teaching without it.
Mathster is a first-class resource created by teachers who clearly understand the realities of the mathematics classroom. It offers a huge range of high-quality questions, automatic homework setting, easy worksheet creation, assessment tools and detailed pupil progress tracking. An excellent resource for any mathematics department and one I would highly recommend.
What I like most about Mathster is that it has been designed by maths teachers who genuinely understand what teachers need in the classroom. The depth of content is excellent, with strong coverage right through to A Level and Further Maths. Everything is straightforward, from the automatic homework setting to creating differentiated worksheets and tracking pupil performance.

Questions
Common questions
Does it work on our Chromebooks?
Yes. It runs in the browser on Chromebooks, iPads, Android tablets, phones and desktops. Nothing to install and no plugins.
Will it import our classes from SIMS, Arbor or Bromcom?
Yes, through Wonde. Pupils, teachers and class lists come across and stay in step through the year. You can also build classes by hand if you would rather, and connect the MIS later without losing anything.
What happens to the worksheets we have already made?
They are still there. Existing accounts, worksheets and saved question sets carry over — the question bank and the marking are the same ones you have been using.
How do pupils enter fractions, powers and surds?
With a proper maths input, not a text box — the same kind of editor you would see in an exam board's own software, with a maths keyboard on tablets and phones. Answers are marked as mathematics, so equivalent forms are accepted and accuracy requirements are enforced.
Is it usable for pupils with additional needs?
Text size and contrast are adjustable and stay set across every page. Everything works by keyboard, marking is announced to screen readers rather than shown by colour alone, and animations can be turned off.
Do pupils need their own logins?
Yes, and they can sign in with the Google or Microsoft account the school already gives them. Live games need no code — pupils see a Join button when their teacher starts one.
How long is the trial, and what happens at the end?
Thirty days, with no card. Nothing charges automatically — at the end you either buy or the account pauses, and your work is kept for you either way.
Can we pay by invoice or purchase order?
Yes. Schools can pay by invoice against a purchase order; individual teachers pay by card.
Can I try it without my class knowing?
Yes. Build worksheets and explore everything on your own first — nothing reaches pupils until you set homework or start a game.
